Columbus Commons Voted Best
Development of 2009

Columbus Underground readers were asked to vote on their top urban development project in Columbus. The project that rose to the top of the list was the currently ongoing demolition of the empty City Center mall that is setting the stage for the new Columbus Commons development in the heart of Downtown.

The City of Columbus Downtown Development Commission has approved the Columbus Commons Master Plan which will transform the former site of City Center Mall into a full-fledged mixed-use neighborhood consisting of multi-story buildings with residential units above street-level retail, office buildings and entertainment venues, as well as a return to a more pedestrian-friendly street grid. Demolition of the mall began October 1, 2009 with an expected completion date of spring, 2010. The support system to create the park will be in place by summer 2010, and the park infrastructure will be complete by December 2010. Seasonal landscaping will be installed in the spring of 2011.
